Boyle Comes Up With Plan To Cut Piracy

Oscar-winning Slumdog Millionaire director Danny Boyle has come up with a new plan to tackle the ever-present threat of film piracy: cut cinema ticket prices. While speaking at the launch of National Schools Film Week, Boyle said that a trip to the cinema is too expensive for many families, and that exhibitors need to adopt “more aggressive marketing techniques to do with price”, so encouraging more young people to watch films at the cinema instead of on pirated DVDs.

“There has always been this feeling of a special occasion when you go to the movies,” said Boyle. “I think there’s something wonderful about sitting in the dark. It is very built into the DNA of the cinema.”

National Schools Film Week provides free screenings for school children across the UK from 19-23 October (2-6 November in Scotland)
