Joe Wright to Direct My Fair Lady

Pirates of the Caribbean actress Keira Knightley won the role of Eliza Doolittle in a planned remake of musical My Fair Lady last year, but now it seems she has a director for the project. And it’s none other than Joe Wright, the filmmaker who helmed her previous movies Pride and Prejudice and Atonement.

Knightley has already had singing lessons for the role of the street urchin turned belle of the ball, and actress Emma Thompson is hard at work adapting George Bernard Shaw’s original play Pygmalion for a whole new generation. The film will apparently be more faithful to Shaw’s work than the 1950s Lerner & Loewe musical, which in turned was the basis for the 1964 film starring Audrey Hepburn in the lead.
