Affleck and Damon team up to bring Scott’s Terra Nova Expedition to the screen

Affleck's younger brother Casey Affleck will star as Royal Navy Officer Robert Falcon Scott

Ben Affleck and Matt Damon are to co-produce Warner Bros.’ historical drama about Robert Falcon Scott’s attempts to cross the Antarctic on the Terra Nova Expedition.

The childhood friends – who worked together on the screenplay of 1997 film Good Will Hunting - will team up for the Warner Bros. project Race to the South Pole through their production company Pearl Street.

The Longest Week director Pete Glantz in line to direct the motion picture, with Ben Affleck’s younger brother Casey Affleck attached to star in the film as Robert Falcon Scott.

Scott competed with Norwegian Roald Amundsen in the early 1900s to be the first person to reach the South Pole. During the Terra Nova Expedition between 1910–13, Scott led a party of five to the South Pole only to find out on 17 January 1912 he had been preceded by Amundsen’s expedition. On their return journey, Scott and the rest of the exhibition got caught in a blizzard before dying from a combination of exhaustion, starvation and extreme cold.

Pearl Street productions’ forthcoming films include a movie based on Whitey Bulger, a Boston organised crime figure, who is set to be played by Damon with Affleck directing.

Damon recently wrapped on Promised Land, which he produced, stars in and co-wrote, while Affleck will soon be in London for the London Film Festival release of political drama Argo, which sees him take on the lead role and direct.
