Robert Redford stars as a man lost at sea and in danger of his life.
Chandor is reported to have written the script specifically for the actor after meeting him at Sundance, the independent film festival Redford helped found over three decades ago.
Veteran music-video and advert director Chandor made waves in the industry with last year’s independent, low-budget film Margin Call, starring Kevin Spacey, Jeremy Irons and Paul Bettany, which premiered at Sundance Film Festival in early 2011.
Focusing on the financial crisis of 2007–2008, the film takes place over a 36-hour period at a large investment bank, modeled on Lehman Brothers.
Chandor – who claimed in interviews he had worked on the film for 15 years – was nominated for an Academy Award for the Best Original Screenplay Category at this year’s Oscars.
Before The Door Pictures’ Neal Dodson and Washington Square Films’ Anna Gerb are producing Chandor’s new film All Is Lost, while Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions will jointly handle the US release.
“After an intense two months of shooting on the water, we’re headed home and have finished production on schedule,” said Dodson and Gerb. “JC is making an audacious film with a brave performance at its center.”
Director of Photography Frankie DeMarco and editor Peter Beaudreau continue their collaboration with Chandor after working on Margin Call, while actor Zachary Quinto – who starred in the film – is serving as Executive Producer, along with Joshua Blum of Washington Square Films.
