The North American rights to Michael Winterbottom’s new film The Look of Love have been acquired by IFC Films after the film premiered in the Eccles Theatre at the Sundance Film Festival on January 19th.
The film sees Steve Coogan in his first non-comedic role as British adult magazine publisher Paul Raymond who became the richest man in Britain while alienating everyone around him.
Helmed by the director of Trishna, Code 46 and 24 Hour Party People, the film is produced by Melissa Parmenter with a screenplay by Matt Greenhalgh. Coogan is joined on the cast by Anna Friel, Imogen Poots and Tamsin Egerton. The film will have its European premiere at the Berlinale.
IFC, which is owned by AMC Networks, has released several of Winterbottom’s films, most recently distributing the 2010 drama The Killer Inside Me – starring Casey Affleck and Jessica Alba - after the film’s Sundance premiere.
“It’s incredible news that IFC Films is going to be releasing The Look of Love in the U.S.” Winterbottom said to The Hollywood Reporter.
“We’ve developed an incredible working relationship over the years and I couldn’t be more enthusiastic to have this film in their hands.”
“Michael Winterbottom has consistently impressed us with his remarkable body of work,” said President of IFC Jonathan Sehring to The Hollywood Reporter. ”For our fifth collaboration with him, he’s given Steve Coogan a brilliant showcase for his talents and matched him with the equally impressive Imogen Poots, Anna Friel and Tamsin Egerton.
“Look of Love is a beautifully executed film that we are incredibly proud to bring to audiences later this year. We’re thrilled to be back in business with Michael, our friends at Studiocanal and Revolution Films.”
