Based on the novel by JRR Tolkien, The Hobbit is set 60 years before the Lord Of The Rings. It follows Bilbo Baggins’ attempt to liberate the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor from Smaug, the dragon.
Sir Ian McKellen as Gandalf the Grey, and Elijah Wood as Frodo, reprise their roles from Lord of the Rings, while Benedict Cumberbatch will play Smaug.
Warner Bros. Entertainment UK president Josh Berger said: “It’s fitting that this film, with a significant number of British cast and crew, will help support the great work the CTBF does for those most in need in the UK’s film and television community.”
The charity provides care and financial help for UK industry employees and their families who are suffering from hardship due to bereavement, illness, redundancy or other misfortunes.
President of the Cinema and Television Benevolent Fund Anne Bennett said: “We are thrilled to be able to host the UK premiere of this highly anticipated first instalment of The Hobbit trilogy.”
Warner Bros. releases the film on Dec. 14.
