Art of Frankenweenie exhibition to come to London to mark film’s release

Walt Disney’s touring exhibition of the artwork in Tim Burton’s animated feature film Frankenweenie will come to London in time for the film’s release on 5 October 2012.

The exhibition includes original sketches drawn by Burton, as well as extensive props, sets and puppets from the film, which is a personal project for Burton, and a return to his animation roots during his early career at Cal Arts and Disney; the original live action short is included in the traveling museum exhibition.

The Art of Frankenweenie exhibition premiered at CineEurope in Barcelona, Spain, on June 18 before moving on to Comic-Con 2012 in San Diego, California on July 11-15.

The exhibition is also due at Fantastic Fest, which Frankenweenie opens on September 20. The tour will also visit France, England, Japan, Mexico, Canada and other locations in the USA before the end of its run.

Featuring the voices of Winona Ryder, Catherine O’Hara and Martin Short, Burton shot Frankenweenie in Three Mills Studios, the base in Bow, East London where Danny Boyle and Stephen Daldry planned the opening ceremony of the London Olympics.

The first stereo 3D film to be screened at the iMax, the film was converted into 3D by Prime Focus, the Soho-based post-production company.
