Aardman's latest stop-motion animation Pirates! made $113 million at the box office.
Founded in 1972 by Nick Park, Peter Lord and David Sproxton and known for its stop-motion clay animation techniques, Aardman won a host of Oscars for the Wallace and Gromit films, before signing a $250 million deal in 1999 with DreamWorks to make an additional four films in an estimated next 12 years
The Pirates! In an Adventure with Scientists, released this March, grossed $113 million at the box office worldwide on a $55 million budget.
From today, UK LoveFilm subscribers will get access to titles from Aardman’s catalogue, which includes Wallace & Gromit, Shaun the Sheep, Morph, Timmy Time, Rex the Runt and Creature Comforts.
Managing director at LoveFilm Jim Buckle said: “Aardman’s stop-motion animations are loved by generations of fans and it is exciting to be able to bring their catalogue to our customers.”
Robin Gladman, digital content and partnerships manager at Aardman, said: “This new deal with LoveFilm is an exciting development in our aim to embrace many digital platforms.”
LoveFilm has previously secured content deals with Warner Bros, Sony Pictures, NBCUniversal, eOne, Studiocanal, Disney, ABC, the BBC and ITV.
