Applications open for 8th Production Value workshop in Austrian Alps

Applications are now open for the 8th edition of Production Value, the week-long residential workshop for film professionals scheduled for January 4 – 12, 2014 in Retz, Austria.

Aimed at Junior Line Producers and Assistant-Directors, the workshop is structured in such a way as to simulate the pre-production process for 6 existing film projects with the aim of delivering professional budgets and shooting schedules for feature films in the €2.5 to €10 million range.

Working in teams of two, successful applicants will be assigned real projects  - currently in development  - which have been  brought to the workshop by various working directors and producers. Teams will then be coached by top-level European Line Producers and 1st Assistant-Directors to ensure that by the end of the workshop, they will have achieved the best budgets and schedules possible.

The whole workshop is conducted in English and every participant will be equipped with the international industry-standard licences of MM Budgeting 7 and MM Scheduling 5 software.

Production Value is looking for applications from Junior Line Producers and Assistant Directors, as well as projects in development by producers. Emphasis will be placed on understanding different working conditions across Europe, and on the best practical and creative solutions to overcome challenges.

The last Production Value workshop – which took place in the Swiss Alps town of Sierre in January this year – attracted applications from 19 European countries from which 12 young professionals were selected.

Senior professionals to offer leadership during 2013′s workshop included British Senior Assistant Director Stuart Renfrew, whose credits include Bridget Jones’s Diary and The Queen, and the Spanish Senior Assistant Director Daniela Forn,(The Impossible), Senior Line Producers Kaare Storemyr from Norway (Kon Tiki), Marco Valerio Pugini from Italy (Rome) and Oliver Lüer from Germany, who’s credits include The Ghost Writer. Other tutors included VFX Supervisor Felix Bergès (The Impossible) and Post-production supervisor Hans van Helden from the Netherlands.

Production Value is a training initiative organized by FOCAL (Switzerland) in coproduction with the Austrian Film Institute (Vienna), the Norwegian Film Institute (Oslo) and the Swedish Film Institute (Stockholm), with the support of MEDIA TRAINING, a program of the European Union. Swiss filmmaker Denis Rabaglia remains Head of Studies for the 8th year.
