Danny Boyle’s Trance gets UK release date

Danny Boyle’s return to the big screen with his new thriller Trance has a confirmed UK release date.

Pathé and Twentieth Century Fox today confirmed the thriller from the Lancashire born, 56-year-old director will open in the UK on 27 March.

Starring James McAvoy, Vincent Cassel and Rosario Dawson, Trance follows a fine art auctioneer who is secretly part of a criminal gang, and whom partners with a hypnotherapist to recover a lost painting.

Boyle recently turned down an MBE after his lauded work on the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympics.

Boyle’s last film was 127 Hours in 2010, which starred James Franco as Aron Ralston, an extreme mountain climber who becomes trapped under a boulder while canyoneering alone near Moab, Utah and resorts to cutting his own arm off in order to survive.

Boyle, the director of the lauded opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic said:After a mad summer with London 2012, it’s great to get back to the day job; treachery and intrigue on the screen rather than behind-the-scenes.

“I wanted to do something different, mix things up a bit, and I think Trance does that – it’s a twisting psychological thriller and I hope an entertaining ride that people will enjoy watching and arguing about afterwards.”

Trance is written by Boyle’s frequent collaborator John Hodge (TrainspottingShallow Grave) while Underworld’s Rick Smith, famous for his Trainspotting and Sunshine soundtracks, has composed the original score. The film is produced by Christian Colson (Slumdog Millionaire).
