Having finally finished Dark Blood, the film that River Phoenix was working on when he died in 1993, director George Sluizer has announced that the movie will debut at the Netherlands Film Festival in September.
After abandoning the film after the death of Phoenix, Sluizer last year vowed to finish the project, and secured the financing he needed to do so from the Netherlands Film Fund and Dutch crowdfunding site Cinecrowd.
The film stars Phoenix as a young widower living on a nuclear testing site in the desert, spending his time carving dolls that are said to have magical powers. When an urban couple break down near his home, Boy takes them prisoner. Dark Blood also stars Judy Davies, Jonathan Pryce and Karen Black.
The Netherlands Film Festival runs from September 25 to October 5 in Utrecht.
