Sam Claflin to play Finnick Odair in Hunger Games: Catching Fire
Claflin's key role in Hunger Games: Catching Fire has been rumoured for months.
Emerging British actor Sam Claflin has been confirmed to play Finnick Odair in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, Lionsgate have confirmed.
The Ipswich-born actor, 26, who has already starred in Snow White and the Huntsman and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, will play the character who won the 65th version of the games alongside Jennifer Lawrence (Katniss Everdeen), Josh Hutcherson (Peeta Mellark) and Liam Hemsworth (Gale Hawthorne).
A post on the official Hunger Games: Catching Fire Facebook page revealed a picture of Sam and attached the accompanying message: “It’s official! Please welcome Sam Claflin as Finnick to the cast of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire!”
The highly anticipated movie will see Sam’s character – who previously won the games for District 4 – thrust back into the fighting arena for the 75th games along with previous champions.
Claflin first rose to fame with his role as missionary Philip Swift in last year’s Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides before starring as Prince Charming in Snow White and the Huntsman alongside Kristen Stewart.
Filming of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is expected to start next month in Atlanta and Hawaii – with Francis Lawrence directing – and the motion picture is scheduled to be released in November 2013.
