In what could potentially be great news for indie filmmakers, New Jersey based Cinedigm Digital Cinema Corp and New Video Group Inc used Sundance to announce the formation of a new partnership to buy and distribute indie films theatrically and via VOD.
According to Cinedigm’s CEO, Chris McGurk, the move is designed to pick up on the glut of indie titles currently on offer at places like Sundance.
“Independent filmmakers and agents are being much more flexible about the deals they are doing now. You don’t have filmmakers clamoring they have to have a 1,000- screen release. They’re much more willing to do a smart platform release.”
Cinedigm/ New Video join IFC Films, The Weinstein Co. and Sony Pictures Classics currently shopping for indie acquisitions at Sundance 2012.
