European Film Market at full capacity for 2013

EFM

Organisers at the 2013 European Film Market (EFM) – part of the 63rd Berlin International Film Festival – have reported a sell-out of all exhibition space at the Martin-Gropius-Bau, the market’s main location, as well as at the Marriott Hotel at Potsdamer Platz. Held annually in February, the EFM is regarded by many as the year’s first, and most important, platform for the sale and exhibition of film and audio-visual content in the world.

EFM director Beki Probst noted that in response to the current trends and developments in the global industry, the market had expanded the availability of exhibition space to include the first first floor of the Marriott Hotel to satisfy demand.

“Straight from Sundance”, a sidebar at the market which has continued to expand in recent years, celebrates its tenth anniversary at the EFM 2013. The new initiative “American Independents in Berlin”, organised by IFP (Independent Filmmaker Project) and the Sundance Institute will cater to independent US-American filmmakers again this year.

Also on offer from 8 -10 February are the popular “EFM Industry Debates” which will once again see international experts discuss current trends in the film and entertainment industry. This series is presented in partnership with the IFA, with media support from industry trades Screen, The Hollywood Reporter and Variety.

Now in it’s fifth year, “Meet the Docs“, a joint initiative between EFM and the European Documentary Network (EDN) and hosted in the Martin-Gropius-Bau, will offer a main meeting point for the international documentary industry. And finally, the EFM series “German Cinema – LOLA@Berlinale” will offer an exclusive look at the past year in German cinema allowing EFM participants and international buyers the opportunity to view films long-listed for the nomination for the German Film Award with English subtitles.

Further information about the EFM can be found on the website: www.efm-berlinale.de
