Jake Gyllenhaal in talks with Denis Villeneuve for role in new film Prisoners

Jake Gyllenhaal in his latest film, David Ayer’s crime drama End of Watch.

Jake Gyllenhaal is in talks to star in Prisoners, the new film from Denis Villeneuve.

The 31-year-old actor is looking to work for the second time with the director of An Enemy. Prisoners would see him play a detective investigating the kidnapping of a young girl and her best friend in a small town.

If he accepts the role, Gyllenhaal will star alongside recently-cast Melissa Leo and Hugh Jackman in the film.

The actress’ role has not been specified but the Wolverine actor is to portray the distraught father of the missing girl, who takes the law into his own hands when he is dissatisfied with the work of police, and ends up kidnapping the man he believes to be responsible for taking the children.

Production on the film is scheduled to begin next year, with Alcon Entertainment planning to release the movie in autumn 2012 through their output deal with Warner Bros..

Gyllenhaal’s current movie End Of Watch has just topped the US box office and will be released in the UK on November 23.
