Taylor Swift to play Joni Mitchell in biopic

Taylor Swift has been confirmed to play Joni Mitchell in a biopic.

The 22 year -old Nashville-based singer-songwriter will portray the iconic Canadian musician in a film adaptation of Sheila Weller’s 2008 book Girls Like Us. A director is yet to be named.

The film will tell the story of the lives of female music stars Joni Mitchell, Carole King and Carly Simon and their impact on a generation of female musicians.

Mitchell,  now 68, is one of the most influential female musicians of her generation with the iconic album Blue and songs such as Big Yellow Taxi and Woodstock. On February 12, 2010, Mitchell’s song Both Sides, Now was performed at the opening ceremonies of the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, while Bill and Hillary Clinton named their only daughter after the Joni Mitchell song Chelsea Morning.

Midnight in Paris actress Alison Pill has been linked to portray Carole King, and Mad Men‘s Jessica Pare is thought to be in the frame for the role of Carly Simon, Variety reports.

John Sayles is to direct the movie from a script penned by House executive producer Katie Jacobs, with Lorenzo di Bonaventura set to produce the film.

While Taylor has mainly been concentrating on forging a successful music career, the 22-year-old has featured in a number of movies including romantic-comedy Valentine’s Day, co-starring with Jessica Alba, Anne Hathaway and Bradley Cooper.

She also lent her voice to the character of Audrey in Dr. Seuss animated project The Lorax this year.
