The Talent Lab will return the Edinburgh International Film Festival for a second year, once again giving new filmmakers the opportunity to access the knowledge of key players from across the international film industry. It is open to screenwriters, directors and producers with a short film or feature credit to their name.
The four day programme, which is supported through the Scottish Government’s Edinburgh Festivals Expo Fund and Creative Scotland, will give Scottish and UK filmmakers the chance to attend group discussions and networking events, as well as one-on-one advice and informational sessions. These will all be held at the Traverse Theatre, the EIFF’s new Delegate Centre venue located close to the festival’s Filmhouse home. The Traverse will also house a full programme of events throughout the festival, which runs from June 20 to July 1, 2012.
In addition, a group of Scottish producer EIFF Talent Lab participants will be picked to travel as delegates to the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2012.
Speaking about the return of Talent Lab, the EIFF’s Artistic Director Chris Fujiwara said “The Edinburgh International Film Festival is strongly committed to discovering and supporting emerging talent. We’re proud to announce the second year of our Talent Lab, which is our major vehicle for fulfilling this vital mission. We’re grateful to the Scottish Government for their continued support of our Expo-funded programmes, and we look forward to showcasing this year’s new talent in our new Delegate Centre at the Traverse.”
The Talent Lab is part of the EIFF’s dedication to the development of new talent, and additional programmes will also run throughout the festival including residential labs for emerging composers and sound designers. More programmes are still to be announced.
