Orphanage Remake Finds Director
Spanish chiller The Orphanage proved to be a hit with the critics when it was released back in 2007, and screenwriter Sergio G Sanchez’s creepy story about a mother returning with her family to the childrens’ home where she grew up - together with some pitch-perfect direction from Juan Antonio Bayona - certainly makes it one of the most effective frighteners of recent years.
But with such great success comes, of course, the obligatory English language remake; a remake that has been on the cards ever since the original hit cinemas. And, after a long search, a director has been found in the form of Mark Pellington (The Mothman Prophecies, Arlington Road, U2 3D).
Mexican maestro Guillermo del Toro, who served as a creative supervisor and general champion of the original film, will be back to produce this remake, as well as co-write the script with Larry Fessenden (Wendigo)
