Timur Bekmambetov Reveals Slate
Russian-born director Timur Bekmambetov has become hot property in Hollywood, after his fantasy movies Nightwatch and Daywatch and English language debut Wanted wowed audiences with their outstanding visuals. Unsurprisingly, he’s now linked to several different projects.
It was thought that Bekmambetov’s first priority would be the oft-discussed Wanted sequel, but as star James McAvoy is now commited to X-Men: First Class it appears the filmmaker will turn his attention to Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, which he is to direct and hopes will develop into a franchise. “There will be many opportunities to develop and explore this world if we get to do sequels. I hope we will start this winter. We are shooting in America,” he revealed.
In addition, Bekmambetov has written treatments for several films, including 3D drunk driving horror film Red Ashphalt for Lionsgate and Universal adventure The Knights Templar. He is also in talks with Universal to produce an English language remake of Russian sci-fi hit Black Lightning.
Bekmambetov is also working on an adaptation of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and Moby Dick, which are both in early development.
