Google To Launch Pay-Per-View Movie Service
A report in business broadsheet The Financial Times indicated that internet behemoth Google has approached the major studios about launching a global pay-per-view movie service by the end of 2010, using YouTube as the player. This could mean that YouTube - up until now the free-to-use home of movie trailers, filmed interviews and home-shot camcorder movies - could become a leading figure in the online video streaming market.
Talks between Google and the studios have apparently been underway for some time, but have recently got more serious. But with the rumoured charge around $5 dollars per viewing, it remains to be seen whether cinema audiences will embrace the new technology.
